BBC Visual Journalist of the year at the SJA awards 2019
Experimenting with illustration as a form of visual journalism and exploring the role it has in documenting the world around us is a central theme in my work. In particular, I am drawn to the ways illustration can be used to visualise topics that are somewhat intangible. Whether that is trying to draw the presence of radiation, document a tumor surgery, illustrate an algorithm or try and capture the feeling of being watched, it is the challenge of visualizing pervasive but unseen stories in the world that I find really exciting.
I enjoy the challenge of tackling topics of a sensitive nature, and in doing so feel it important to promote an ethical practice. In my work I try to go beyond voyeurism by actively engaging with multiple facets of the subject matter, open mindedly and without conscious bias.
