FUKUSHIMA

In preparation for the Japanese Olympics, new questions are being raised about the Fukushima disaster site. Nine years on from the explosion, there are still many misconceptions about the area. I wanted to create a book that could capture the conflict in the area, and the presence of things that can’t be seen; radiation and political tension.

The book is bound in lead, a poisonous substance but also a radioactive shield. The layout is designed as a fold out concertina and once read, the book could be flipped and then re-read back to font, creating an alternative sequential narrative.
